Atopic dermatitis (AD), also known as eczema, is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory skin disease with an immunologic and genetic background. This condition affects both children and adults, significantly impacting their daily functioning and overall quality of life. The primary and most burdensome symptom of AD is persistent pruritus (itching) that worsens at night, forcing patients to scratch and leading to epidermal damage.
